Will – Apprentice

Role: Trainee Technician

Joining date: June 2016

What were you doing before you joined?

Studying for and achieving a Level 3 BTEC in High Performance Engineering at Silverstone UTC. Whilst at college I was coming to KWSP as work experience alongside my studies to give me an idea of and appreciation for the working environment.

What made you join?

The plethora of opportunities available at the company and the enthusiasm shown by everyone to succeed as a team. There were and still are many projects which cross between different traditional engineering sectors allowing for a wider variety of experience to be gained which was one of the main selling points for me.

What’s your average day like?

My average day involves working with the show, demonstrate or concept vehicles we develop for our clients. This can either be helping build them up ready for delivery or strip them down for repair. The repairs that I may have to perform on the cars vary from car to car and also where they have been recently installed.  I also will have to help with the post processing of FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling) parts to allow for delivery dates to be met.

What do you do outside of work?

When the weather permits it, I enjoy taking my bike down to a local set of trails. I am currently trying to learn as I go with maintaining and repairing cars which is something I currently enjoy to do.

Highlights of my career so far?

So far one of the most memorable ‘highlights’ was installing one of our showcars which I had helped prepare on the monument at Goodwood for the Festival of Speed. It was the first time I got to see one of our cars installed in person rather than being shown pictures.

One word that would describe working at KWSP….
