Twenty-five years after graduating from Oxford Brookes University with a degree in mechanical engineering, KWSP’s managing director was invited back to inspire budding engineers of the future. Kieron Salter was guest speaker at this year’s graduation ceremony on Monday June 18th, where he explained how he went on to pursue a hugely successful career in engineering.
Back in 1993, Kieron was attending his own graduation ceremony at Oxford Brookes when he witnessed a talk by Adrian Reynard, founder of Reynard Motorsport. He was so inspired by Adrian that he approached him following the ceremony and ended up securing a job at the sports car manufacturer! A successful nine years at the company saw Kieron progress to head of special projects, before moving to a role at McLaren and later founding KW Special Projects. (2011).
During his talk, Kieron shared with graduates what he considers are the secrets to success, highlighting the importance of building relationships in business, being open to collaboration and making use of various networking channels.
Kieron commented: “Key to my business culture has been surrounding myself with people who are better than me, to do the things I can’t. Never be afraid of people being better than you. As long as you are at your best, you can build teams and a culture that will deliver the best outcomes.
“Education gives young people the springboard to make an impact and a difference; to make lives better and feel rewarded while doing so. But successful people never stop learning and collaborating. This is a life-long process.”
